  We are always looking for somewhere new to get a good cappuccino while we are out shopping on Saturdays.After picking up a few supplies at the nearby Smart & Final Extra we walked over to this coffee shop.It's pretty simple little place...a couple of table and chairs inside and a few more outside.After ordering 2 cappuccinos,a chocolate chip cookie and a sausage roll we sat outside in the fresh air.The coffees were pretty good.....La Costa roasted coffee beans the barista Susan told us.The choc chip cookie was excellent and the pork sausage roll was a treat to eat.In case any readers don't know what a sausage roll is.......being an Aussie who grew up eating them as well as meat pies in Australia.It's a ground pork or beef mixture inside a delicious flaky pastry casing.I was going to take a photo but I devoured it before I could reach my iPhone.This a great coffee shop / bakery with very friendly service and reasonable prices.We will drop in next time we are in the neighborhood.

  When I was in junior high, our cafeteria served these awesome bars made with peanut butter, oats, sugar, and other ingredients. I would have one of these nearly every morning at snack break. I never found these bars again until I happened to drop in at Gordy's one day a couple of years ago. There they were, sitting in the glass case with a label that said "Lunch Lady." It turns out that Gordy, who is the same age as I am, went to the other junior high in the same district, and the cafeteria cooks shared recipes. Gordy had the same fond memories of those bars, and was able to get the recipe, somehow, and so I can re-live one of my favorite experiences (there weren't many during that traumatic early-teen period) every time I'm in the neighborhood. Gordy stayed, I moved about 50 miles away, and so whenever I pass through Encinitas, I make it a priority to include a stop at Gordy's. Not only are the Lunch Ladies wonderful, but so is every other baked good Gordy creates. My other favorites are the Plonk, the B-bar, and the Scottish, but I love everything he bakes. Recently, my wife stopped eating gluten, and when I brought home a box today of Gordy's treats, she frowned, because she couldn't eat any of them. But guess what? Gordy now makes a gluten-free Plonk! Boy, was she happy to find that out (and it tastes as good as the original, which I never would have believed).
  It's probably a good thing that I live so far away, because I would definitely weigh a lot more if I could stop by Gordy's more often. Encinitas, you have a true bakery treasure. Long live Gordy's!

  I do not love the coffee here. I would like to have the option to drink the beverage in house. But this pastries are amazing. The staff goes above and beyond to give you a very descriptive detail of information. The owner takes great pride and cleanliness in his bakery. His partner is at the counter frequently and holds a great attitude. The décor is awesome and interesting.
